15 Western Countries Call for Recognition of Palestine as a State

In a significant move, 15 Western nations have jointly called on countries worldwide to recognise Palestine as a sovereign state. The announcement was made by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot during a recent United Nations conference.
The joint statement reads:
“We express our desire to recognise the State of Palestine and invite those who have not yet done so to join us.”
This group includes France, Australia, Canada, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Finland, New Zealand, Iceland, Malta, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Andorra, and San Marino.
France has already confirmed it will officially recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly in September 2025, marking a notable shift in European diplomacy.
Currently, at least 142 of the 193 UN member states recognise Palestine as a state. The call for recognition comes amid a deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where famine and restrictions on aid deliveries have escalated international concern.
As global pressure mounts, the move signals a growing momentum among Western nations to formally support Palestinian statehood.
